The senior editor (criticism and enterprise) oversees a vibrant group of critics, staff writers and freelancers who cover the arts and entertainment throughout the Bay Area.
The right person will have an insatiable curiosity about all forms of art and culture, feeling as comfortable at a small club in downtown Oakland as at a four-hour symphony or an Ibsen revival. The editor will be able to discuss Allende and Adele, Banksy and Beethoven, Kendrick and Kandinsky.
This editor is a journalist at heart and has impeccable news judgment. In charge of criticism and enterprise, the editor relishes working closely with critics to turn good to great and will question the critical status quo. The editor can conceptualize both daily and long-term projects, and has excellent managerial skills, experience adhering to a budget and success collaborating in teams.
In collaboration with the senior editor arts and entertainment (digital), this editor will help shape the way criticism and projects are unfurled across a new digital content, Datebook.com. This project is aimed at ensuring The Chronicle remains the No. 1 place for people to plan, discover and learn about arts and entertainment options. Demonstrated experience with strategizing digital content offerings is required.
The editor will also conceive of and shepherd a selection of special projects. Experience with multi-pronged projects is required.

This editor will also have considerable exposure to both readers and the arts community and should be a responsible public representative of The Chronicle.
Organization:
The senior editor reports to the Deputy Managing Editor for Features, and runs the arts and entertainment department with a second senior editor in charge of Datebook.com.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required:
More than five years of experience at a major metropolitan newspaper, magazine or digital outlet with a strong track record in arts journalism, news judgment, decision-making, staff supervision and budget administration.
Must have high degree of proficiency in a variety of content-management systems and social media platforms.
