Geva Theatre Center, a LORT B theatre in Rochester, NY, seeks an Assistant Literary Director/Dramaturg. Geva’s growing literary department supports the production of world premieres as well as plays within the canon: projects over the last couple of years have included new plays by Mona Mansour, Keith Glover, Catherine Trieschmann Miller, Brent Askari, Molly Smith Metzler, Lila Rose Kaplan, Mat Smart, Nora Cole, Wendy MacLeod, Clarence Coo, Elyzabeth Wilder, Jamie Pachino, Prince Gomolvilas, and Universes, among others. The literary department also collaborates on projects with Geva’s Education and Engagement departments. The Assistant Literary Director/Dramaturg reports to Literary Director/Resident Dramaturg, Jenni Werner. Duties will include: assisting with producing Geva’s new play programming; serving as production dramaturg on two or more shows per season and supporting the dramaturgical needs of other productions; participating in pre- and post-show conversations as appropriate; curating the Geva Journal, Geva’s blog about context and theatrical process; overseeing the reading of plays submitted to the theatre; maintaining the literary database, including script submissions, evaluations and playwright correspondence; representing Geva’s Literary Department to both internal and external constituents; and other duties as applicable. The ideal candidate will have an MFA in dramaturgy or other applicable theatre experience and will have excellent written and oral communications skills, a passion for both new and existing plays, and a deep love of theatre.
