The Texas Tech University School of Theatre & Dance within the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts is accepting applications for a tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Dramaturgy. This position is for a nationally or internationally prominent dramaturg with a commitment to helping to guide the theatre program to national distinction and nurturing the next generation of dramaturgs/artists/educators/scholars enrolled in our undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful candidate will begin service in this full-time position at the beginning of the 2019 fall semester.
Position Requirements: Terminal degree, combination of degree(s) and experience, or equivalent professional experience. Record of professional activity and/or research that demonstrates emerging or established national or international recognition in the field of dramaturgy is paramount. Candidate will continue professional research that is relevant to the current and future practice of dramaturgy. Familiarity with current and cutting edge practices in dramaturgy, performance, and pedagogy, with a vision towards the evolution of the discipline. Commitment to quality, student-centered education and working as a team member. A demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse student populations. Strong evidence of the ability and desire to perform service duties including, but are not limited to, recruiting, program-building, and commitment to extra-curricular activities in the school, college, university, and community. Candidates who have clear potential to support scholarship by extramural funding, as appropriate to research specialization, are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching at the university level. Ability to form partnerships within and outside of the university, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The ideal candidate will have superior dramaturgy skills and facility with new play development; the ability to teach directing, playwriting, or movement; and an active record of dramaturgy/scholarship/practice that includes community engagement and/or collaboration. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will:
Demonstrate ability to teach dramaturgy and additional courses related to their expertise, and continue to engage in nationally/internationally recognized creative/professional practice and/or scholarship.
Embrace new forms of critically engaged disciplinary practice/scholarship in the evolving fields of dramaturgy and new works development for both theatre and dance. Foster courses that emphasize a commitment to social responsibility, advocacy, and engagement as they relate to the field. Seek opportunities to teach broadly across the fine arts curriculum, and envision new ways to expand beyond it.
Actively participate as a collaborative departmental citizen in school, college, and university service, including committee work and academic support services such as undergraduate and graduate reviews, thesis and dissertation committee work, and curriculum development; recruitment of students into the program; program review (including implementation and assessment of outcomes); maintaining the school's accreditation with NAST; student advising across diverse communities, supervision of student organizations, and participation in sponsored off-campus activities.
Embrace collegiality within and outside the school, particularly in building interdisciplinary collaborations.
The School of Theatre and Dance is NAST accredited and offers the BA in Theatre; BFAs in Acting, Design and Musical Theatre; MA; MFA in Arts Administration, Playwriting, Design, and Performance and Pedagogy; PhD. in Fine Arts with a major in Theatre. A faculty of 23 full-time professors serves approximately 140 undergraduate students and 70 students involved in graduate study. The School has many prominent alumni, including Jaston Williams (Greater Tuna), G.W. Bailey (The Closer, Major Crimes), Jennifer Smith (The Producers), Brad Leland (Friday Night Lights), Randy Cordray (The Office), Barry Corbin (No Country for Old Men). Technical and administrative support includes a total of 8 staff positions. The School's resources include a new state-of-the-art facility scheduled to open March 2019, a burgeoning Equity theatre connected to the school, the nationally-reknowned Marfa and WildWind Performance Lab programs, and annual participation in the Tennesse Williams Festival.
