Kainaliu-Kona, HIAloha Theatre produces an annual mainstage season of 5-7 musicals and straight plays acrossmany genres, and operates as both a traditional live theatre and a performingarts center. We are currently seekingapplications for a dynamic Artistic Director to guide the next phase of ourgrowth as the leading presenter of the performing arts in West Hawaiʻi.OverviewThe Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu-Kona, Hawaiʻi, isa 501(c)(3) organization that enriches the lives of Hawaii residents andvisitors by presenting high-quality live amateur theatre, performing arts education,and a venue for artistic expression. The Board of Directors’vision for the Aloha Theatre is that it will be an anchor in the community forshared artistic experience; that it will be recognized for commitment to itsdiverse Hawaiʻi home, enablingparticipation in the arts for all regardless of background; and that thetheatre will be a catalyst for growth, nourishing the needs and interests ofthe community by integrating arts education for all ages into every aspect ofthe theatre’s work.The Artistic Director is responsible forconceiving, developing and implementing the artistic vision and focus of theorganization and will also participate in decision making about the ongoingdevelopment and delivery of the organization's mission, values and vision. TheArtistic Director is expected to consistently demonstrate the qualifications,characteristics and skills outlined in the hiring process; they must be a compassionateand dynamic leader with extensive experience in producing high-quality theatreand events while facilitating an artistic transformational process with peopleof diverse racial, ethnic, economic, gender andeducational backgrounds. TheArtistic Director must have a passion for theatre and theatre education, andmust understand Hawaiʻi’s social complexities, as well as the challenges andopportunities of theatre in a close community. They must be detail oriented, well organized and able to manage time andpriorities, working independently but able to collaborate with a team.The position of Artistic Director is afull time, salaried, exempt position at the Aloha Theatre’s main offices. The engagement will begin July 1, 2020. Weekly hours may vary based on the productionschedule: weekend work is required. The ArtisticDirector reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Board ofDirectors.Responsibilitiesof the PositionThe Artistic Director will ensure highquality programming that aligns with the spirit of the Aloha Theatre’s mission,values and vision by performing the following responsibilities:Manage the Production departmentManage all production staff and volunteers,including the Technical Director and Production ManagersDevelop an annual program budgetLead the Aloha Mainstage seasonChair the Kokua Committee that selectsshows for each Mainstage seasonDirect a minimum of three shows perseason, with primary responsibility for guiding the process to ensure the bestpossible presentation as well as a quality experience for cast and crewAssists with recruitment and selection ofguest directors for remaining showsRecruit and guide music directors,choreographers, costumers, and other designersLead Special EventsThoughtfully craft Special Events thatreflect the community’s broad interestsCoordinate staff for successful eventexecutionWork with the Education Director toincorporate educational elements into all programmingShare knowledge and experience by servingas primary or guest instructorParticipate in fund developmentactivities, including events and donor relationsRepresents the Aloha Theatre in thecommunity, and as a representative to state and national theatre organizationsRequiredExperience, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThe requirements listed below arerepresentative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
