LMDA Receives NEA Grant

Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas to Receive National Endowment for the Arts Grant

Award is among 1,023 Made Nationally

[May 7, 2015] Through its grant-making to thousands of nonprofits each year, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) promotes opportunities for people in communities across America to experience the arts and exercise their creativity.

In the second major grant announcement of fiscal year 2015, the NEA will make a $10,000 award to Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA) to support its 30th Annual Conference in New York City (June 25-27, 2015). The NEA will make 1,023 awards totaling $74.3 million nationwide in this funding round.

NEA Chairman Jane Chu said, “The NEA is committed to advancing learning, fueling creativity, and celebrating the arts in cities and towns across the United States. Funding these new projects like the one from [Name of organization] represents an investment in both local communities and our nation’s creative vitality.”

LMDA President Beth Blickers adds, “LMDA has enriched countless professional lives and works tirelessly to share resources with an ever expanding circle of dramaturgs and related artists. The support of that expansion by the NEA is proof that what was begun around a table in a restaurant thirty years ago is now a thriving and vital component of North American theater.”

The 30th Annual LMDA Conference will bring together from around the world some of the most remarkable dramaturgs, Artistic Directors, designers, playwrights, critics and literary managers. It will celebrate the thirty incredible years that have gone into building one of the premiere organizations dedicated to dramaturgs and the art they create. LMDA will honor its past, look at the current state of events and light the invaluable torches of inspiration that will carry it through the next thirty years.
