Biography
Rick Davis was the founding Resident Dramaturg at Baltimore Center Stage (1986) before becoming Associate Artistic Director of that company. He served as an officer of LMDA and co-editor of the LMDA Review in the late 1980s. He moved to George Mason University in 1991 as Artistic Director of Theater of the First Amendment;TFA presented its final programs in 2012. He now serves as Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Mason, and continues to work as a director, dramaturg, translator, and librettist in professional theater and opera settings. Rick is the author or co-author of four books, including a volume of translations of Calderon de la Barca and a set of widely-produced Ibsen translations created with Brian Johnston. He received his MFA and DFA from the Yale School of Drama and his BA from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. He teaches a range of courses in directing, dramaturgy, literature, and arts management at Mason, and previously taught at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland, which included the privilege of working with future dramaturgs such as Marge Betley, Doug Rose, and Michele Volansky.
