Richard is a specialist in contemporary theatre and performance. Recent plays he’s directed include: The Events by David Greig, Long Division by Peter Dickinson, The Invisible Hand by Ayad Akhtar, Blasted by Sarah Kane, Between the Sheets by Jordi Mand (site-specific), Except in the Unlikely Event of War by Sean Devine, Inside the Seed by Jason Rothery, & Terminus by Mark O’Rowe. Richard has received several Jessie-nominations for outstanding professional work in Vancouver, including 6 nominations for Outstanding Director and one for Significant Artistic Achievement. He has received the John Moffat and Larry Lillo Award, the Ray Michel Award and has twice received the Jessie Award for Outstanding Director. He’s currently on the board of LMDA Canada, and is a member of Lincoln Centre’s Directors Lab. Richard earned his MFA from UBC. He’s been the artistic director of Pi Theatre for the past nine years.
