Biography
Cecelia Raker (Dramaturg) is a playwright, dramaturg, and librettist based in Austin. Current projects include dramaturgy around Jewish representation in Texas Performing Arts' production of Merchant of Venice, libretto and dramaturgy for a new opera about a trans* stagecoach driver in the Gold Rush, and two new plays. In 2017-18, her play La Llorona premiered with Fresh Ink Theatre in Boston and went on to Cohesion Theatre in Baltimore. Her work has also been developed and produced with Venus Theatre, the Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, the Boston Theater Marathon, Project:project, the Great Plains Theater Conference, the ART’s Loeb Ex and a variety of other venues. Honors include being a 2017-2018 MA Cultural Council Artist Fellow, second place in the Kennedy Center’s Darrell Ayers 2018 Playwriting Award for Young Audiences, 2016 Kilroys Honorable Mention, 2016 Princess Grace Award runner-up, and being a finalist for the Jewish Plays Project Contest.
