Biography
Marilo Nuñez is a playwright/director. She was founding Artistic Director of Alameda Theatre Company, a company dedicated to developing the new work of Latinx Canadian playwrights. Alameda’s De Colores Festival of New Works was the first and only play development festival for Latinx writers in Canada and developed over 35 new works by Canada’s finest Latinx writers. She won the 2018 Hamilton Arts Award, Established Artist in Theatre, and has been shortlisted for the KM Hunter Artist Award in Theatre twice, nominated for the Most Influential Hispanics in Canada, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Spirit Awards. She has been a member of the Playwright’s Unit at Tarragon Theatre, Theatre Aquarius, Cahoots Theatre Company, Nightwood Theatre and Alameda Theatre Company. She was Playwright-in-Residence at Aluna Theatre. She is a graduate of Ryerson Theatre School and is currently attending University of Guelph for MFA in Creative Writing (focus on Playwriting) and is currently McMaster University’s first Playwright-in-Residence. www.marilonunez.com
