Biography
Stephen is the Associate Artistic Director of the Arts Club Theatre Company in Vancouver, BC where he manages the new play development program. As past Artistic Director at Rumble Theatre, he initiated a commissioning program for new Canadian adaptations of classical texts. Through this program he has dramaturged, developed, and directed Hiro Kanagawa's "Indian Arm" (adapted from Henrik Ibsen's "Little Eyolf" and recipient of the 2017 Governor General's Literary Award for Drama) and Colleen Murphy's "The Society for the Destitute Presents Titus Bouffonius" (adapted from Shakespeare's "Titus Andronicus"). He is currently working with playwright Carmen Aguirre on a new adaptation of "Medea". Other recent plays he's directed include "Cock" by Mike Bartlett, "Penelope" by Enda Walsh, "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot" by Stephen Adly Guirgis, "Hand to God" by Robert Askins, and "The Pillowman" by Martin McDonagh. He is an adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia where he teaches Shakespeare Text Analysis and Performance.
