Biography
Most recently, Shelagh McFadden served as dramaturg on the summer 2018 production of Matthew Scott Montgomery's DEAD BOYS at Celebration Theatre, called by the Los Angeles Times "a whimsical confection of comedy, bromance and horror, with unexpected twists."
She's currently a creative producer and artistic committee member for the Living Room Series at The Blank Theatre, where she’s produced more than 40 staged readings. She served as dramaturg on many of those readings, including Oren Safdie’s UNSEAMLY, which went on to productions Off-Broadway at Urban Stages in New York and at Infinithéâtre in Montreal. Shelagh is especially proud of her work as dramaturg on The Blank’s workshop and mainstage productions of Aliza Goldstein’s A SINGULAR THEY, which won the L.A. Drama Critics Circle 2016 Ted Schmitt Award for world premiere of an outstanding new play.
A member of the Young Playwrights Festival Selection Committee for four seasons, she served as a playwright mentor for the 2017 and 2018 Festivals. Shelagh has also worked as a story analyst for Warner Bros. and Columbia, covering both screenplays and stage plays. She holds a Master's in Creative Writing but feels she earned her real education in drama facing audiences as a storyteller/performance artist for 10 years, and in script interpretation classes with legendary acting teacher Stella Adler.
