Marjan Moosavi is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto’s Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies. Her doctoral studies focus on Iranian theatre’s interventionist potentials in giving visibility to the shared issues concerning war, women, and identity. Her professional work is rounded out with dramaturgy, dramatic translation, teaching Middle Eastern traditional and modern performances, and Persian language. She won Iran’s National Fadjr Theatre Festival Special Acting Award (1989) and Iranian Women’s Theatre Festival Award for her research on “Gender Dynamics” in plays by Iranian women playwrights (2009). Marjan is originally from Iran, but her life, work, and studies have taken her across Iran, US and Canada. Her articles focusing on the intersections among performance and religiosity, ethics and emotion are published in New Theatre Quarterly, Routledge Companion to Dramaturgy, TDR (The Drama Review), and Critical Stages. She is the Regional Managing Editor and Author of Iran Section for TheTheatreTime.com. She has recently been awarded the 2018 Graduate Fellowship award at the Centre for Diaspora and Transnational Studies at University of Toronto where she is researching about the Middle Eastern diasporic theatre and performance.
