Biography
During my career in Canada, I have been lucky enough to work with emerging playwrights during the play creation process, both as a consulting dramaturg for various playwrights, and as a production dramaturg for Full Circle Theatre. Additionally, in my recent position at Theatre Calgary as a Learning and Engagement Apprentice, I was given the opportunity to sit in on the workshop process for the FUSE Enbridge New Play Development Program and see the resulting staged readings of the plays selected for the FUSE workshops. Everything I learn about new play development in Canada simply makes me want to know more, and I have an insatiable interest in all aspects of the dramaturgical process. I can state categorically that it is my goal to continue to find work as a dramaturg in Canada, in order to play some small part in the development of new Canadian plays.
My personal career goals and my passions are intrinsically tied to what I consider to be the future of Canadian performance. I believe that for Canadian theatre to remain truly vital, it needs to embrace all aspects of Canadian cultural identity. Canadian performance must reflect the personal experiences all Canadians, whether they are immigrants, First Nations peoples, LGBTQIA*, live with mental or physical illness, or are otherwise marginalized. It is my goal to build upon my existing skills and education, and begin to take part in the process of bringing these marginalized voices into theatre.
I have recently completed a contract at Theatre Calgary as the Learning and Engagement Apprentice. I have also worked with the Stratford Festival as a casual copywriter/editor, and at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in the UK as an Education Intern. I have a Master's Degree in Shakespeare Studies from King's College, London.
