Biography
Camille Gingras
Born in Venezuela, Camille grew up in Argentina and Scotland before living in England for twelve years. There she received a BA (Hons) in English Literature and Theatre at Kent University and received an MA (Distinction) in Playwriting at Birmingham University for her play, 'Autobiography of Nowhere'. Since settling in Canada, Camille has been fortunate to create original work as a playwright, a performer, a director and dramaturge with some of British Columbia's most adventurous artists. In 2008, she co-founded Rough House Productions with media designer, Candelario Andrade where she created, 'Tiny Apocalypse', which was nominated for Jessie Richardson awards in the categories of Outstanding Performance, Sound and Lighting Design, Direction, Production as well as Significant Achievement in Video Design. Also, for Rough House, she co-wrote 'A Last Resort' in 2012, which was nominated for a Jessie award for ‘Outstanding Original Script’ and was the dramaturge on 'Three Lectures on the North', a co-production with Theatre Replacement.
Selected dramaturgy credits include: 'The Hooker Monologues', which was created by twelve sex-trade workers from Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside; 'Motherload', Motherload Collective; 'To Wear A Heart So White', Leaky Heaven; 'Kismet one to one hundred', The Chop- nominated for ‘Outstanding Innovative Creation’ and the ‘Vancouver Critics’ Choice for Innovation in 2010; and 'Clark and I Somewhere in Connecticut', Theatre Replacement / Rumble Production, which was nominated for ‘Vancouver Critics’ Choice for Innovation’ in 2008.
