Biography
Kirt Shineman is a Phoenix-based playwright and Professor of Communication. He’s attended the Great Plains Theatre Conference (The Pornographer), Mid-American Theater Conference, the national Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, TheaterWorks Westival New Play Festival (Benkelman and Junction Creek) The Hormel New Works Fest (Cloning Peter), and DC Black Theatre Conference. His topics range from the personal (Allie Opp’s Last Fantastic Day – Emerging Artists Theater, Off-Broadway) to the political (Forbidden Glass- O’Neill semi-finalist, Chicago Pride Films & Plays). His play, Germs and Viruses, (NNPN finalist & O’Neill semi-finalist) had its premiere at Arizona State University Mainstage Theater. He has degrees from Arizona State University (MFA- Dramatic Writing), Emerson College (MA- Communication), and Colorado State Un. (Rhetoric & Theater). As a dramaturg he’s worked with playwrights such as Philip Dawkins, David Rush, Y York, Jen Plants, and Angelica Howland. He is a proud artistic member at the Theater Artists Studio and a Dramatist Guild member since 2009.
