Biography
Jessica Kahkoska is an NYC/Colorado-based performer, writer, and dramaturg. Her work focuses on the adaptation and re-imagination of verbatim and archival text, historical events, community testimony, and folklore/myth into accessible, dynamic, research-driven narratives for theatre and TV. Writing projects include DISCOUNT GHOST STORIES (with Alexander Sage Oyen), Agent 355 (with Preston Allen, recipient, 2017 Marion International Fellowship in the Performing Arts), IPHIGENIA ET AULIS (with Sarah Wansley), and TOO WILD TO DRILL (with Ashley Teague and the Wilderness Society). Her writing has been developed and presented by Village Theatre, Joe’s Pub, Local Theater Company, Ars Nova, (le) Poisson Rouge, Musical Theatre Factory, and SUNY Fredonia, and she is the recipient of residencies at the American Music Theatre Project (AMTP) at Northwestern University, Barn Arts Collective, Chautauqua Institution, the Drama League, and UCROSS Foundation. Dramaturgical work includes Local Theater Company, Creede Repertory Theatre, and television research for Bungalow Media and Entertainment and AMC/Sundance. In New York, she has performed at New York Theatre Barn, National Sawdust, (le) Poisson Rouge, 54 Below, Ars Nova, the Bushwick Starr, and the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), among others, and regionally at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center (Colorado Henry Award Nomination for Outstanding Performance in a Musical), Theatre Aspen, American Stage Theatre Company, University at Buffalo Performing Arts Center, Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival, Lake Dillon Theatre Company and the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival. She currently serves as Artistic Associate at Local Theater Company in Boulder. Graduate of Northwestern University.
