Biography
Ali Pour Issa was born in Tehran in 1981. He graduated from the Yale School of Drama, Yale University with an MFA in Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism in 2011. Also he received an M.A. in Dramatic Literature and Criticism from the University of Tehran in 2006, and a B.A. in Scene Design from Islamic Azad University, Central Tehran Branch in 2003. He has worked as a university instructor, theater director, playwright, editor-in-chief, stage designer, scriptwriter, short and documentary films, and visual artist in Iran, the U.K., and the U.S. He has been a permanent member of The Dramatists’ Guild, House of Theater in Iran since 2005, a permanent member of The Directors’ Guild, House of Theater in Iran since 2007, and a member of Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas since 2011. His last conference participation was at Hong Kong Baptist University with his paper titled “Performing Negotiation” at the 2014 Colloquium on “Performativity and Translation.” His 2012 short narrative film, Cold Ground, has been selected in eleven international festivals in Europe and North America; the notable festivals include the 8th Annual European Independent Film Festival in Paris, the 16th Annual Sonoma International Film Festival in California, the 20 Annual Twin Rivers Media Festival in North Carolina, the 30th International Long Island Film Festival in New York. It was awarded a diploma from the 41st Festival of Nations in Austria. He has been making two films currently: a documentary film about the contemporary Iranian theater titled, Unheard Voices and a short narrative film titled, Bahar meaning, “spring.”
