Biography
Deanie Vallone is the Literary Associate at Milwaukee Repertory Theater working primarily on the theater's New Play Development program.
Recently she served as Dramaturgy Fellow at Baltimore Center Stage for the 2016-2017 season. As resident Fellow, she was lead dramaturg on two mainstage shows—The White Snake (dir. Natsu Onada Power) and That Face (dir. Johanna Gruenhut)—and assistant dramaturged the remaining season’s productions. She also dramaturged the theater’s developmental reading series, Play Lab: Larissa FastHorse’s The Thanksgiving Play and two Dan Hoyle projects. In conjunction with Baltimore Center Stage, she spearheaded the Baltimore chapter of the Dramaturgy Open Office Hour Project.
A graduate of St. John’s College at the University of Cambridge in the UK, Deanie was active in the university’s theater scene. Upon returning to the US, she worked as a freelance dramaturg and educator for a number of theaters in Wisconsin. For the 2014-2015 season she served as Education Resident with Milwaukee Repertory Theater. She also served as the Dramaturgy and Casting Apprentice at Asolo Repertory Theatre for the 2015-2016 season, working as lead dramaturg on two productions—Ah, Wilderness! (dir. Greg Leaming) and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (dir. Frank Galati), as well as assisting as dramaturg on the remainder of the season’s shows and co-curating the theater’s Unplugged New Play Festival. After her apprenticeships, she worked remotely as a Dramaturgy Consultant for the theatre.
In addition to theater, she is an instructor for the Wisconsin Center for Academically Talented Youth’s Young Student Summer Program, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute through UW-M, and Schlitz Audubon Nature Center’s Raptor Program. Her prose, poetry, and nonfiction have been published in a number of national and international journals and magazines, including The Wisconsin Review, The Independent (UK), Jumeirah Magazine (UAE), and HowlRound.
