Biography
Jonathan Spector is a Bay Area based director and dramaturg. He is the Artistic Associate for Playwrights Foundation, where he has overseen the selection process for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival since 2006. At PF, he also created and oversee the Resident Playwrights Initiative and has developed dozens of new plays with some of the country's top up and coming playwrights, including Thomas Bradshaw, Marcus Gardley, Sheila Callaghan, Rachel Axler, Julia Jarcho, Brian Thorstenson and Sam Hunter. Jonathan is also Co-Artistic Director of the Berkeley-based, Just Theater, where he has directed the regional Premieres of Jason Grote's 1001, Melissa Gibson's Current Nobody and Anne Washburn's I Have Loved Strangers. With the performance groupe Mugwumpin, he recently co-conceived and directed This Is All I Need, which was named on the year-end ‘Best Of’ Lists from SF Weekly and SF Bay Guardian. Locally, he has also directed and developed work with Aurora Theater, Magic Theater and FoolsFURY. While living in New York, he was a member of the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab, The Lincoln Center Directors' Lab, and a frequent collaborator with the Obie-winning company, The Civilians.
