Literary Manager
Biography
I have worked as a theatre artist in Canada since 1987, as a director since 1996. For 9 years I was co-Artistic and Managing Director of Solo Collective Theatre in Vancouver – a company that commissions, develops and premieres new works by Western Canadian playwrights. More recently I have worked on a freelance basis with many playwrights and theatres to develop both individual scripts and the craft of writing in general. I am also the Literary Manager at Persephone Theatre, where I read and assess script submissions and support playwrights in the development of their work.

Much of my freelance directing work has focused on new work, and the reason for this is my love for the written word. Although ‘spectacle’ or movement-based pieces are always intriguing, text-based - and story-based - theatre is where my heart is, and where my instincts and skills have been most useful to playwrights.

As Literary Manager at Persephone, I've had the opportunity to be exposed to hundreds of plays. My respect for the work of the playwright is enormous: to me, putting words on an empty page - or computer screen - is the bravest act in our discipline. It's both a pleasure and a privilege to support and challenge writers as they find their way to the story they want to tell.
