Biography
Daniel Smith is Assistant Professor of Theatre Studies at Michigan State University. He was formerly Associate Artistic Director/Resident Dramaturg of Caffeine Theatre, where he served as dramaturg for eight productions and performed in a few devised projects. Other Chicago credits include work with Steep Theatre Company, Infamous Commonwealth, Lights Out, Remy Bumppo, Theatre-Hikes, and The Hypocrites. After studying French Literature at the University of Notre Dame, Dan earned degrees in Theatre from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (MFA) and Northwestern University (PhD). He has translated plays by Marivaux, Molière, Madame de Beaunoir and Grandval. Dan has chaired the Theatre History Focus Group of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) and has taught Theatre Studies courses at UMass, Northwestern, UIC, and DePaul. He is also a three-time "Jeopardy!" champion.
